November 27 – 1627 = Louisa Henrietta is born.
Louisa Henrietta is born on November 27, 1627 to the ruling Orange family of the Netherlands. She was raised in the Reformed faith and married the Elector of Brandenburg, an area that was relatively new to the Reformed faith. She was a good leader to the people of Brandenburg and helped them recover from the Thirty Years War at her husband’s side. She promoted education through rebuilding schools and apparently helped introduce potato farming into Germany, as she had lived with it in the Netherlands. But on top of these practical things, she should be known most of all for her faith and hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. She is probably best known as a hymn writer. Her most famous is Jesus My Redeemer Lives. Its words speak the truth of the Christian faith even today. “Jesus, my redeemer, lives. Christ, my trust, is dead no more. In the strength this knowledge gives, shall not all my fears be o’er;”
