June 23 – 1964 = Johan Herman Bavinck dies
John 10:3 “To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”
Johan Bavinck was the nephew of the famous Herman Bavinck of the Netherlands. Johan was also a pastor, but he served mainly a missionary and a trainer of other missionaries showing a love to spread the gospel to those who needed it. Originally he served Dutch communities in Indonesia, but he would be sent out among the Indonesians as a true missionary. After four years as a missionary church planter, he added to his work by becoming a teacher at an Indonesian Seminary so he could train and raise up local Indonesians to serve the church in Indonesia. He would later return to the Netherlands and become a Professor of Missions at Kampen Theological Seminary where his uncle had taught. Johan was called home to be with the Lord on June 23, 1964 after a lifetime of calling sheep from fields afar and training others to do the same.
